Liberty County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Richard Whitten was shot in the line of duty on May 29, 2019 in Cleveland, Texas while attempting to arrest an armed murder suspect. He passed away at an area Hospital February 3, 2020 from complications from the shooting. He is survived by his wife and children.
